Avete mai assistito ad una gara di Coppa del Mondo di Sci Alpino dal vivo?

Il 23 e 24 Gennaio scorsi sono stata invitata dagli organizzatori engadinesi ad assistere alla due giorni di gare femminili, Discesa Libera e Super G, nella mitica Sankt Moritz, sulla pista olimpica del Corviglia.

Have you ever seen a ski race? January 23 and 24, I attended the two-day women’s events on the Corviglia – St. Moritz local mountain. The world’s top women skiers competed in SuperG and Downhill.

St. Moritz è stato luogo di nascita del turismo alpino invernale nel lontano 1864 e degli sport alpini, nonché teatro di due edizioni dei Giochi Olimpici Invernali nel 1928 e nel 1948 come pure di molti campionati del mondo di sci e bob. Insomma il tempio dello sci invernale!

In 1928 and 1948, St Moritz hosted the Winter Olympics! Numerous ski and bob World Championships and other major winter sporting events – as well as famous guests – have ensured the exceptionally high profile and prestige value of St. Moritz throughout the world.

Un weekend entusiasmante, che mi ha portato a bordo pista, insieme ad altri 30.000 spettatori, a tifare le beniamine italiane e canadesi e a scoprire di persona il mondo magico del “Circo Bianco”, in mezzo ad atleti, addetti ai lavori, tifosi variopinti e l’aria frizzante di montagna.

 An exciting weekend, on the track, along with 30.000 spectators, to cheer italian and canadian athletes and discovering the “white circus” togheter with champions, employees and colorful fans.

 A fantastic show in the high mountains with fabolous scenery!

Per la cronaca sportiva,la Discesa Libera è stata vinta dalla padrona di casa Lara Gut davanti all’austriaca Anna Fenninger e alla ungherese Edit Miklos. Nel super G 64^a vittoria per l’americana Linsdey Vonn,davanti ancora ad Anna Fenninger  e Nicole Hosp.

In front of her cheering fans, local hero Lara Gut raced to her second victory of the season. The Swiss completed the downhill course in 1:43.82 in sunny conditions on Saturday, while Austria’s Anna Fenninger came second, 0.32 seconds adrift. Hungary’s Edit Miklos finished third, 0.58 seconds out,for her first ever World Cup podium.

Lindsey Vonn mastered a tricky super-G race on Sunday for a record-extending 64th World Cup victory. The American star raced down the Engadina course in 1 minute, 23.55 seconds. Anna Fenninger of Austria was runner-up for a seventh time this season, 0.24 back. Nicole Hosp of Austria was 1.10 behind Vonn in third.
